Going Outside

Going outside, out for a drive
Go out to feel normal
Drove so far, pushing my car
To the continental divide
Going outside, the altitude’s high
And I haven’t eaten a thing all day
My body’s translation of dehydration
Is passing out inside of a stranger’s kitchen
My knees were wobbling
I started to see nothing
Everything went black before I hit the table
When I came online, I thought I had gone blind
I was sure the virus was inside of me
All because I made the choice of
Going out there, I went to Urgent Care
I said to the doctor, “I think I caught the bad one”
She looked at me, stuck an IV
Said what I got is altitude sickness
Going outside is just so hard now
And I don’t think it will ever be the same
